Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel. Full day tour for some of the most exciting and famous Christian sights in Cairo. We would start with old Cairo. Visiting the church of Saints Sergius oldest church in Egypt. The Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga) is a 4th century church and today is considered to be the oldest of Cairo's Christian churches. It is dedicated to two early martyrs and traditionally believed to have been built on the spot where the Holy Family, Joseph, Mary and the infant Christ, rested at the end of their journey into Egypt. They may have lived here while Joseph worked at the fortress. Then walk to the hanging church. Which was built in the 7th century, probably on the site of a 3rd or 4th century church for the soldiers of the bastion. It has been rebuilt several times since then, including a major rebuild under Patriarch Abraham in the 10th century. By the 11th century, the Hanging Church became the official residence of the Coptic patriarchs of Alexandria and several Coptic synods were held in the church. The main furnishings - the pulpit and screens - date from the 13th century. Followed by the Coptic museum, a very interesting museum whereby it holds many of the pieces that where buried in sand for years and excavated during the past several centuries. The Coptic Museum was founded in 1910 and recently reopened after extensive renovations. Stop for lunch at the local restaurant. Then proceed to the Church of the Holy Virgin at El-Maadi. After their short, but all-too-felt, stay in Old Cairo, the Holy Family moved in a southerly direction, reaching the modern Cairo suburb of Maadi which, in earliest Pharaonic times, was an outlying district of Memphis, the capital of Egypt then; and, at Maadi, they boarded a sailing-boat which carried them up the Nile towards southern Egypt. The historic church built upon the spot from which they embarked, also dedicated to the Virgin, is further identified by the denominative, 'Al-Adaweya', the Virgin's Church 'of the Ferry'. (In fact, the name of that now modern suburb, Maadi, derives from the Arabic word which means 'the Crossing Point'). (Above: Virgin Mary Church - Maadi. Below: An icon of St. Demiana - Virgin Mary Church - Maadi.) Back to the hotel. Overnight in Cairo.
Day 3
Breakfast at the hotel. Full day tour where by we shall be driving by air-conditioned minibus or bus to the Red Sea.The visit of st. Antony Monastery which was founded in the mid 4th at the Saint Antony Monastery is located on over 360 Acres of land in Newberry Springs, California. In 1972, a small piece of land was purchase in the Mojave desert. In November 1973, the first Divine Liturgy was prayed on this newly acquired property. Two fathers serving in the Los Angeles area, namely Fr. Arsanious Aziz and Fr. Kerelos Farah, celebrated the Liturgy. Also serving in the Liturgy were Magdi Saad who later became Bishop Tadrous of Port Said, as well as Atef Isak who later became Bishop Dioscorus. The latter was the first monk consecrated for Saint Antony Monastery. After Bishop Dioscorus' ordination to the episcopate, the Monastery was left without a monk until 1989 when His Holiness Pope Shenouda III sent 4 monks to establish the Monastic Life in America. These monks were: Fr. Karas El Anba Bishoy, Fr. Pavlos El Anba Bishoy, Fr. Benyameen El Baramosy, and Fr. Shenouda El Antony. In 1992, Fr Shenouda was ordained Bishop Yostos, Bishop and Abbot of Saint Anthony Monastery in the Red Sea, Egypt. The Monastery has enjoyed continued growth under his leadership. After which we shall see the St. Paul Monstrey Egypt's Eastern Desert, at least for now, provides us little in the way of antiquities for travelers. Pharaonically, there are a few trade routes and other ruins. However, it is the home to two of Egypt's best known Christian monuments which include the well known monastery of St. Anthony (Antonios) and perhaps the less well known Monastery of St. Paul of Thebes. Back to the hotel. Overnight in Cairo.

They have been both the main destination for tourists and a source of imaginative thought to the world for over three thousand years. Then we shall make a stop at one of the Papyrus institutes to learn and see how the ancient Egyptians used to make paper out the papyrus plant. Stop for lunch at the local restaurant. Then continue our tour by visiting the Egyptian Museum of antiquities, which host over than 100.000 Objects with the treasures of King TUTANKHAMUN. Back to the hotel. Overnight in Cairo.

It’s a full day whereby we shall be visiting several l Monasteries, including the Paromeos Monastery, the monastery of Saint Makarius, the drive will be for an approx 03.00 HRS each way on the desert road to Alexandria. It was founded in 360 A.D. by St. Macarius the Egyptian, who. was spiritual father to more than four thousand monks of different nationalities-Egyptians, Greeks, Ethiopians, Armenians, Nubians, Asians, Palestinians, Italians, Gauls and Span-lards. There were among them men of letters and philosophers, and members of the aristocracy of the time, along with simple illiterate peasants. From the fourth century up to the present day the monastery has been continuously inhabited by monks. The monastery of Saint Peshoy The most eastern surviving Christian monastery in the Wadi el-Natrun of Egypt is Dier Al Anba Bishoy (Pshoi, Bishoi), which was founded by St. Bishoy (Pshoi). Though similar, the story of Saint Bishoy is sometimes told with varying details. However, in general, we believe that Saint Bishoy was born in the Egyptian Nile Delta in 320 AD. Apparently, his parents were deeply religious, and it is said that in a dream one night, an angel of the Lord asked for the services of one of his mother's children. St. Bishoy's mother gave the angel his selection of her children, and the angel chose Bishoy. A frail child, his mother thought that the angel might do better, but the angel said that, "the Lord's power in frailty is perfect". At the age of twenty, Bishoy joined the Monastery of Seetis. He was particularly fond of the book of Jeremiah from the Old Testament, and was therefore called Abbot Bishoy the Jeremian. Back to the hotel. Overnight in Cairo.
